Entrepreneuer Manfred Roth celebrates his 80th birthday - A lifetime dedicated to the family company
He is also on hand to each of them for advice and support in the family company. As chairman of the Board of Shareholders, he advises the management team and represents the partners’ interests in boards and in respect of third parties.
Review and Vision
In 1961, at the age of 21, Manfred Roth joined his father’s company and took over responsibility for the company as his father, Heinrich Roth, had become very ill. The first product range was furnaces with manual assemblies in Silberg and Mornshausen. As soon as he joined his father’s company, Manfred Roth was convinced that the mono-structure of the business would have to be overcome to ensure long-term business security. He envisioned the family business, which had been founded in 1947, as a dynamic, industrial company with multiple business fields in technological and market leadership positions. He was certain that a well-balanced, diversified company would be more resistant to crises and would offer better growth opportunities.
Studying close to the Company
When Manfred Roth joined the family company, he had to interrupt his degree in engineering at RWTH Aachen University, thereby ensuring that the company could continue. However, he never gave up on his original plan to go to university. As his father’s health improved, he decided in 1963 to study economics at the Philipps University in Marburg and was therefore close to the company. He completed his studies in 1968 with the graduate economist examination.
The journey from home workshop to global market leader
Manfred Roth made his vision a reality: in 58 years, he developed his father’s workshop into an international company. Under the motto ‘One brand – many strengths’, the family company is now represented throughout the world through various firms with some 1,300 employees and 28 production and sales companies. Comprising several divisions, Roth Industries is one of the most innovative companies in the building and industrial technologies market. With core expertise spanning a range of sectors including energy, water and plastic, the manufacturer has an outstanding performance capability and diversification allows the company to exploit synergies and develop a leading role in innovation. Its reputation as a global market leader in energy storage systems, radiant heating and cooling systems and composite technologies was confirmed when Roth was entered in the Langenscheidt Lexicon of German World Market Leaders.
Responsibility for the environment, the economy and society
Manfred Roth is committed to the economy, society and the environment. The manufacturer has developed its own environmental management system and is EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) certified. Roth was one of the first companies in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district to achieve climate-neutral production processes at its Dautphetal-Wolfgruben site. The company received the “EMAS Environmental Management 2018” national award from the Federal Ministry for the Environment in recognition of its environmentally friendly production at its Buchenau and Wolfgruben sites.
From 1990 until 2001, Manfred Roth was President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dillenburg, working to promote the development of the local economy. In 2007, Manfred Roth received the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (“Verdienstkreuz am Bande”) awarded by the Federal President for his long-standing voluntary and social commitment. Roth supports social organisations, cultural projects, regional clubs and projects relating to education and training, and is strongly committed to cooperation between business and schools, universities and higher education institutions. Manfred Roth has, in particular, felt a deep connection to Philipps University in Marburg ever since his time as a student there.
The third generation stands for the future
The Roth family company is family-oriented, responsible and dynamic. These values are what motivate Manfred Roth’s children, Claus-Hinrich Roth, Christin Roth-Jäger and Dr Anne-Kathrin Roth, who have been managing directors of Roth Industries since 2017. Together with the CEO (Chief Executive Officer), Matthias Donges, they are responsible for the further development of the value-based and forward-thinking Company.
